Beyond the Story: Listening to the Land, Remembering the Self
The more we ask what else is there? - the more we listen, question, and redefine who we think we are - the more the layers of life begin to reveal themselves. What once felt solid begins to shimmer. What we thought we knew… opens.
Standing on the lands surrounding Rosslyn Chapel, I felt this so deeply.
It was as though I was holding a ladder between realms - each rung a layer of time, energy, story, and memory—each one felt differently, seen through a different lens.
Sacred sites often hold many stories. Rosslyn Chapel is no exception. Some are well-known, some hidden, some wildly contradictory. And for many, those stories are enough. They hear one version, accept it, and move on.
But for some of us, that’s not so simple anymore.
It’s not about judgment or doubt. It’s just that we feel more. We sense more. We know there is more than the surface tells.
Stories are beautiful. They help us make meaning, connect, feel less alone. They can help us understand the past or glimpse into what might have been. But even the most compelling stories are still just a starting point.
As I wandered this sacred land, I found myself being pulled deeper - not by the tales, but by the land itself.
The stones. The elements. The Earth. The stars. The souls who once walked here.
And beneath it all - something else entirely.
What lies at the center of it all?
Not a story.
Not a fact.
Not a belief.
But a feeling.
Not emotion, but presence. Resonance. A spacious knowing.
It is here, in this quiet center, that I often find love. Laughter. Lightness.
Even amidst the weight of history.
And this isn’t just something that happens on sacred land.
We’re invited to “see” in this way within our own lives, too.
To go beyond the surface stories we’ve accepted or inherited -
The “who did what” or “what’s not working.”
To ask instead: What is the truth of who I am beneath all of this?
When we learn to live from that deeper center, everything begins to shift.
It doesn’t require efforting.
Just presence.
Just a willingness to place ourselves in the quiet -
in nature, in stillness, in energy, in breath.
Amazing things begin to happen from that space.
We’re lifted - not by striving, but by life itself.
We remember. We reconnect. We return.
So I invite you - gently - to get curious.
Not just about the stories you’ve heard…
But the ones you’re still telling yourself.
Let yourself feel the land.
Let yourself soften in silence.
Let Spirit show you the more you’ve always sensed was there.
You don’t need to know how.
You just need to allow.
The remembering is already inside you.
You, beloved, are not alone.
Spirit walks with you.
The Earth holds you.
And I’m here too - should you want a companion on this part of the path.
