The Gap Between Knowing

and Believing

· spiritual awakening,reclaiming your truth,inner knowing,spiritual,inner work

I have stood at Stonehenge and received a soul piece. I have stood in churches, in temples, and felt myself vibrating — at times so strongly I couldn’t move. I have stood next to stones whose energy shook me.

These are not things that can be reasoned away with logic. And they are not something I dreamed up and then decided to feel.

There is a difference between imagining you love someone and actually loving someone. One is mental — you can construct it, rehearse it, talk yourself into it. The other is not something you made. When you begin working with spirit, you come to know that difference in your body. It is not your own creation. It is a relationship — like meeting someone, getting their vibe, their personality, and learning to work together.

The Signals We Were Given

We don’t trust our gut. We don’t trust the feelings that move through us, even though they are some of the most important navigators we have — signals on the path that we didn’t manufacture.

Something says don’t do that. Something else says yes, more of this. A feeling rises to remind you that you’re muting yourself. Another rises to remind you that you’re taking a chance. These things cannot be made up. And still, we doubt them. We mute them. We muffle them.

You already know the shape of this. It’s the job you took anyway, because the offer looked too good to refuse on paper, while something in your chest went quiet the moment you said yes. It’s the person you stayed with a little longer than the knowing said to, because leaving had no logic that would hold up if someone asked you to explain it. It’s the yes that came out of your mouth while the rest of you was already saying no. You felt it. You still went back to logic — why, how could that possibly work — as if logic were the only language trustworthy enough to speak.

The Question Behind the Question

I have sat with people many times where spirit has answered something for them, and because there is a place inside that needs certainty, they go looking to be proven right. Are you sure? What’s your accuracy rate? Are you 100%, or only five?

That question is being asked by someone who has already decided that logic outranks their own inner guidance. And it’s worth sitting with, because it’s so human. Often, when I’m with someone, spirit isn’t telling them anything they don’t already know. What’s actually happening is a gap — the gap between what we know and where that knowing lives inside us.

We try to fill that gap with logic. But what we know didn’t come from logic in the first place. It came from a sense. A deep knowing. A pull, or a push, from within. So it makes sense that it won’t hold up when we try to implement it, manipulate it, or navigate it through logic’s boundaries. This is the space where we get stuck — trying to make an inner language answer to outer rules it was never written in.

Leaving Room

None of this equates cleanly. And that’s the point. There has to be room — for openness, for what else is possible, for curiosity, for trust.

But trust is hard to access when we haven’t yet learned how to listen to our own inner world. So we stay lost, fighting ourselves, fighting the very impulses that are trying to guide us — and the more we fight them, the louder they get.

It’s fascinating. And I understand it, too, because it’s scary. I have walked that path — knowing something clearly within me, choosing not to listen, doing something else instead, and watching to see where that choice did or didn’t take me.

In time, maybe we teach ourselves. Maybe this time, we’ll listen. Sometimes that takes a while — and that’s part of it, too. Maybe.

With love and blessings,

Susan
